In Santiago
Yesterday, for our last movie night at home with Zaffy, we rented Rapa Nui http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110944/ a 1994 movie (produced by Kevin Costner a.o.) based on the stories told by Heyerdahl. We worried that the movie might ruin our first view of the island, but decided to risk it for background. In the end it gave a lively introduction to the mysteries of the island set in the magnificent nature we're about to explore. The production, it appeared, had some challenges. The actors had to wear very little clothes and must have been selected for their splendid physiques and a credible "Polynesian" look, leaving little room to worry about their accents in spoken English, which were all over the place - British, Australian, American. Today we catch a noon flight to Santiago and relax for its 4 1/2 duration reading our travel books. The LATAM food service is spartan - one ham sandwich on a white roll 😣.
